Our Patron

Music in Peebles is thrilled and very honoured that the distinguished violinist Gina McCormack agreed to become our Patron from the start of our 2018/19 season.

Gina (who lives in the Scottish Borders) is one of the UK’s foremost violinists, as a soloist, orchestra leader, chamber musician and string quartet leader (with the Sorrel Quartet, Maggini Quartet and most recently with the world-renowned Brodsky Quartet).

She is also among the most highly regarded teachers, with posts at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal Northern College of Music.

Gina has long been a great supporter of Music in Peebles, attending our concerts whenever she can and helping to raise money for our Piano Fund (including a truly delightful salon-style concert with her regular duo partner, Nigel Clayton).

In spite of her exceptionally busy schedule, Gina was absolutely adamant that, as Patron, she did not want to be a mere figurehead. Rather, she sees this as very much a working role, which exactly matches the way we view the remit. Speaking of her appointment, Gina said she hopes to use this new partnership with Music in Peebles to promote young musicians at the start of their careers and to develop more opportunities for young people in the Scottish Borders to experience classical music.

Already, the Patron’s Concert has become established as a highlight of each season, with Gina providing a showcase for students and recent graduates from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. These concerts have gained some of our highest-ever audience ratings and the standard of musicianship on display has been astonishing, setting the bar extremely high for this event in future seasons!

We are immensely grateful to Gina for making this important commitment to Music in Peebles and look forward very much to collaborating with her in the years to come.
