Duncan Honeybourne is a distinguished pianist and teacher, having given concerts throughout Europe and holding posts at the Royal Academy of Music and Southampton University.

Aberdeen-based composer Philip Cooke, whose music is inspired by his native Lake District, has recently written a series of short solo piano pieces for Duncan, who is giving the world premiere performances in different locations during a Scottish tour. Music in Peebles is thrilled to have been invited to join that tour.

The concert is bounded by two great masterpieces, the Drei Klavierstücke written by Schubert in the last year of his life, and the Piano Sonata No.3 by Brahms, composed when he was only twenty but already a master of the genre. Also on Duncan’s programme are three more ‘piano pieces’ in the form of Alexander Mackenzie’s ‘Scenes from the Scottish Highlands’.
