Tim Kliphuis (violin), Nigel Clark (guitar), Roy Percy (double bass)

Classically trained Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis has been hailed as a contemporary improvising Paganini and is widely regarded as the heir to his mentor, Stéphane Grappelli. In his trio, Tim is joined by two brilliant Scottish musicians, both supremely talented jazz musicians in their own right. Nigel Clark is one of Europe’s top acoustic guitarists, whilst Roy Percy is one of Britain’s most in-demand double bass players, whose speciality is the rarely-heard ‘slap bass’ technique.

In this semi-improvised programme, the trio will perform movements from their most recent works: ‘Reflecting the Seasons’ and ‘Brandenburg’. These interpretations of music by Vivaldi and Bach create a profoundly musical blend of classical, gypsy jazz and folk music, all delivered with a ready humour and great finesse, whilst remaining respectful to the originals.
There will also be some trusted swing tunes, blurring the lines between musical forms, and maybe a preview movement of the Trio’s to-be-premiered ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’.
