Music in Peebles has been “bringing the best of chamber music to the Scottish Borders” since 1947, supporting both Scottish-based musicians and introducing the best ensembles and soloists from elsewhere in the UK and internationally:

  • •BBC Young Musicians Michael Collins, Jess Gillan, Benjamin Grosvenor and Jennifer Pike

  • superstar pianists Angela Hewitt, Steven Osborne, Pascal Rogé and Martin
 Roscoe

  • “queen of the Baroque violin” Rachel Podger

  • The Dunedin Consort and the Brodsky, Edinburgh, Fitzwilliam and
Maxwell String Quartets

  • and many more.

Grants and fund-raising

Approximately three quarters of our funding each year comes from subscriptions and ticket sales, with the rest from fund-raising and donations.

We have been fortunate in the past to receive an annual grant from Classical Music Scotland, the organisation which supports music societies across the whole of the country. But as with all grants we cannot guarantee to receive this every year.

Other support in the past has come from the Peebles Charitable Trust, Scottish Borders Council and the Hugh Fraser Foundation for specific projects.

Hugh Fraser together with the Cockaigne Fund supported our Shostakovich Anniversary Weekend in June.

Donations

Meanwhile musicians have to be paid a fair fee, and we are faced with increased hire charges at the Eastgate, leaving us with a shortfall which will have to be filled.

If you feel you could further help us to continue bringing such high-quality music making to Peebles either by making a one-off or regular donation, we would be very grateful.

Gift Aid

I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the current tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations, it is my responsibility to pay the difference.
