Music in Peebles is a registered charity (SCIO 48944) which has been “bringing the best of chamber music to the Scottish Borders” since 1947, supporting both Scottish-based musicians and introducing the best ensembles and soloists from elsewhere in the UK and internationally:
• BBC Young Musicians Michael Collins, Jess Gillan, Benjamin Grosvenor and Jennifer Pike
• superstar pianists Angela Hewitt, Steven Osborne, Pascal Rogé and Martin Roscoe
• “queen of the Baroque violin” Rachel Podger
• the Dunedin Consort and the Brodsky, Edinburgh, Fitzwilliam and Maxwell String Quartets
and many more.
We are particularly keen to support young musicians at the start of their careers, and encourage all our musicians to introduce themselves during the concert and give their own insight into their choice of programme.
In addition to our regular series of concerts, which typically run from September to April, a recent success was a Shostakovich Anniversary Weekend to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the death of the “greatest composer of the Soviet era”, in which the internationally-renowned Brodsky Quartet played all 15 of the composer’s quartets over one weekend—the only complete cycle in Scotland. The weekend was featured on BBC Radio Scotland’s Classical Now and trailed on Radio 3.
Music in Peebles concerts are held in the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles, the principal arts venue in the Borders (eastgatearts.com).
