Music in Peebles is thrilled and very honoured that the distinguished violinist Gina McCormack agreed to become our Patron from the start of our 2018/19 season.

Gina McCormack

Gina (who lives in the Scottish Borders) is one of the UK's foremost violinists, as a soloist, chamber musician and most recently as First Violin with the world-renowned Brodsky Quartet. She is also among the most highly regarded teachers, with posts at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal Northern College of Music.

Gina has already been a great supporter of Music in Peebles, attending our concerts whenever she can and helping to raise money for our Piano Fund (including a truly delightful salon-style concert with Nigel Clayton).

In spite of her exceptionally busy schedule, Gina was absolutely adamant that, as Patron, she did not want to be a mere figurehead. Rather, she sees this as very much a working role, which exactly matches the way we view the remit. Speaking of her appointment, Gina said she hopes to use this new partnership with Music in Peebles to promote young musicians at the start of their careers and to develop more opportunities for young people in the Scottish Borders to experience classical music.

We have already discussed a number of potential projects, both short and longer term, and we are really excited at the prospect of collaborating with Gina to develop these ideas further. The first of these to come to fruition was our inaugural Patron's Concert in February 2019, in which Gina provided a showcase for students and recent graduates from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. It proved to be a runaway success, gaining one of our highest-ever audience ratings. The standard of musicianship on display was astonishing, setting the bar extremely high for this event in future seasons!

We are immensely grateful to Gina for making this important commitment to Music in Peebles and look forward very much to working with her in the years to come.
