Music in Peebles is delighted to have been successful in securing a concert by winners of the prestigious Tunnell Trust Award for Young Musicians. The standard of musicianship from past winners has unfailingly been exceptionally high, and this concert promises to be another outstanding one in a distinguished line. It is part of a five-date Scottish tour being undertaken with support from the Tunnell Trust*.

PART 2 ‘Alone at the Opera’ (arr. Jonathan Bates)

Based in Manchester, A4 Brass is comprised of principal players from some of the UK's leading brass bands, including the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery and Foden's bands. Their unique blend of instruments and great musical versatility sets them apart from other quartets.

Their concert is an eclectic mix of arrangements by members of the group, ranging from the evocative ‘South Uist Variations’ to the beautiful song of hope ‘Mae-e’, in memory of victims of the 2011 Japanese earthquake. There’s also the finale of Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony as you’ve never heard it before and, in the second half, an intriguing sequence of pieces neglected and well-known.
